Tithing and giving in the Old Testament. When we study the Law as it relates to tithing, we remember that it is a guide. We don’t live under the law – instead it teaches us a principle that helps us answer the question, “How much should I give to God’s work?” Read Genesis 14:18-20, Genesis 28:20-22, Leviticus 27:30-32, Malachi 3:6-12.
Thursday, October 5
Jesus on “money.” Read Matthew 6:19-24, Matthew 6:25-34, Luke 12:13-21, Luke 21:1-4. What is God’s word to you from these passages?

The Apostles on “money.” Read II Corinthians 9:6-15 (the context here is a special offering Paul is asking the Christians at Corinth to receive in order to help the Christians in Jerusalem who were financially struggling), I Timothy 6:6-10 and 17-19, and Hebrews 13:5. What is God’s word to you in these verses?

Before developing a budget or spending plan, you first must be clear about your purpose in life and your most important goals. You will sacrifice certain things in order to accomplish these goals and your budget will help you accomplish your goals. Answer the following questions:

1. What place do you wish God to have in your life and how will this be reflected in your budget?
2. How do you hope to respond when people are in need of help?
3. What are your career and family goals, which have financial implications?
4. Look over your notes from Sunday's sermon - keep these in mind as you budget.
