When in Conflict With Science

Posted by – January 29, 2012

Rob’s sermon for January 29, 2012, is When Christians Get It Wrong: When in Conflict With Science(Audio link).

The scripture is Genesis 1:1-8 (NRSV):

1In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, 2the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. 3Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
6 And God said, ‘Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.’ 7So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. 8God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

Relating To Other Faiths

Rob’s sermon for January 22, 2012 is Relating to Other Faiths(Audio link).

The Scripture is I Peter 3:8-13 (NRSV):

8 Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called—that you might inherit a blessing. 10For
‘Those who desire life
   and desire to see good days,
let them keep their tongues from evil
   and their lips from speaking deceit;
11 let them turn away from evil and do good;
   let them seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
   and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.’
13 Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good?

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS!!

The Small Blessings Preschool is hosting its annual Spaghetti dinner. This elegant dining experience will be held Saturday, January 28th. There is no charge for the dinner. However, to enable the preschool board to get an accurate count for planning purposes, it will be necessary for you to make reservations through the church office or in the breezeway on Sunday mornings between services January 15th and 22nd. When reserving your tickets, you will be asked to choose between 4:30, 6:00 or 7:00 pm seating. Those of you wishing to support the preschool may make a donation that will help with scholarships or equipment not available in the general budget of the school. The Small Blessings Preschool Board hopes that everyone will attend on January 28th for an evening of fine-dining, fellowship, and fun! Thank you to the entire congregation for your continued support of the preschool. This year we will be entering the Spaghetti Dinner through the front doors on Division Street (handicap access still available on Musser). We will have a warmer and roomier place to wait for your table. There will be a continuing slide show of the children of Small Blessings Preschool and the church accompanied by music. We hope you enjoy!

When Bad Things Happen

Posted by – January 15, 2012

Dixie’s sermon for January 15, 2012 is When Bad Things Happen(Audio link).

The scripture is Job 16:1-5:

 1-5 Then Job defended himself:
 ”I’ve had all I can take of your talk.
   What a bunch of miserable comforters!
Is there no end to your windbag speeches?
   What’s your problem that you go on and on like this?
If you were in my shoes,
   I could talk just like you.
I could put together a terrific harangue
   and really let you have it.
But I’d never do that. I’d console and comfort,
   make things better, not worse!
