- Children and Youth Ministries

Nursery Care - A Staff of loving adults and youth are available at all church services for infants and toddlers. If you have questions, talk to Janet Wainscott our Nursery Coordinator

Sunday School - We have Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. Our curriculum is selected to meet the needs of all ages and to be user friendly to our volunteer teachers. For more information on Sunday School, please call Christina Reid our Children's ministry coordinator 246-7060.

Laugh-n-Learn - A weekly class designed with the developmental needs of toddlers in mind. From Play Doh to parachute play and singing to crafts, there is something to fascinate and intrigue every toddler. For more information, call Rebecca Talafous 882-2040.

Vacation Bible School - Every summer, 1st UMC offers an exciting opportunity for the children of the church and the community. Vacation Bible School is one week of morning activities and mission projects for children/youth ages three through 6th grade. Oder youth are encouraged to volunteer as leaders and helpers. Parent/Adult volunteers are always needed and welcome. (Child care is available for children of the adult volunteers).

Small Blessings Christian Preschool - is an ourtreach program of First United Methodist Church that offers a Christian-based preschool curriculum to children from 3 years of age through Pre-K. For more information please call Brenda Keller, Preschool Director, at 884-1600.

Jr. & Sr. High Youth Groups - A time of fun, games, fellowship and Christian caring for one another. Typically held on Sunday evenings. Call church office for events/times.

Confirmation Class- Every other year, the 7th and 8th graders of our church begin working and studying in the fall to become members of First United Methodist church. Activities with confirmation include visits to church services of other faiths/practices and culminates with a missino trip to Glide Memorial UMC in San Francisco where they help feed the homeless population in the area.

FaithLink Adult Class - Read about and discuss current events and how we as Christians should respond to these events. Meets 9:30 am in the Wesley Room.

Tuesday Morning Men's Study Group - A group that meets weekly for devotions and fellowship. Meets Tuesday mornings from 7-8 am at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant. Bill McCord, 883-2902.

United Methodist Women's Circles - There are two study/devotional circle groups that meet on the fourth Thursdays of the month. All women of the church are invited to attend. Please check with the chruch office or the bulletin/newsletter to see where circler groups are being held.

Thursday Morning Breakfast (Couples and Singles) - Meets Thursday mornings at 7:00 am at Grandma Hatties for devotion and discussion.

Women's Bible Study Fellowship - This group uses the Serendipity Bible for it's Bible study with weekly lessons and discussions. Meets Friday mornings in the Youth Center.

Stephen Ministries - Trained Lay ministers who are available to bring God's love into a person's everyday life by profiding confidential, one-to-one, quality Christian care. If you are in need of Stephen Minister, please call the church office, 882-1436.

New Beginnings - This is a small group offering support, for those who have experienced the loss of a spouse. Meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.

United Methodist Women - Meets the 1st Thursday of the month in the Wesley Room at 11:45 am for potluck and meeting. This group of women work to support women and children in the community and the world. They offer scholarships each year with money they raise.

Methodist Men - Meets the 2nd Thursday of the month in the Wesley Room at 6:00 pm for dinner and meeting. This group supports local and worldwide missions throuh fundraisers/yardsales etc.

Tai Chi This gentle form of exercise brings you to a meditative, prayerful place. New students are welcome and specified times of the year, please check with the church office. Meets Tuesdays at noon in the Wesley Room.

Resistance Exercise - Group spends first 30 minutes in group-building and Bible study and last our in a program of resistance exercise. Bill McCord, 883-2902.

Bridge Group - Meets 3rd Saturday at 6:00pm in the Wesley Room.

UMW Craft Workshop - Meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month beginning at 9:00 am to make crafts for the annual Holiday Faire.

F.I.S.H. - You may donate non-perishable foods in our collection buckes in the narthex or breezeway of the church. If you wish to give a monetary donation there are envelopes in the pews for that.
- Community Involvement - Here are just a few ways that Carson City 1st UMC serves our local and global communities

Living Drive-Through Nativity For the past 9 years 1st UMC has set aside one weekend in December to "tell the story" of Jesus' birth with a living dirve-thru nativity. Guests may either dive-thru or walk along a marked path as they experience scenes of the story of Jesus' birth. Each scene has live actors and some scenes involve live animals such as cows, sheep and even camels. This event is our gift to the community

Missions to Guatemala - For the past 2 years we have sent members of our congregation on 2 week missions to Guatemala. These teams help out with medical and dental screening as well as providing necessary care to people who would otherwise not be able to afford this care. In 2010 we're pleased to announce that we'll probably be sending 2 full teams from our congregation alone!

Support/Recovery Groups - We are one of the few churches in the community that still allows groups (NA, CA, GA, AA, etc.) to meet on campus. We provide a safe, consistent meeting place for these support groups

F.I.S.H. - 1st UMC was one of the churches in the community that began the Friends In Service Helping center. We continually support this effort with monetary as well as canned food donations weekly.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) - Through UMCOR our congregation was able to support the relief mission in Luisiana and surrounding areas after Hurricaine Katrina. Members made health kits to be shipped out to those in need and some members even traveled to the Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA to help with relif suppoy operations.

Community Resource Guide - Through the hard work and dedication of our Eldercare Program, we are able to access grant moneis to publish a Community Resource Guide for Older Adults in North-west Nevada Communities. This program is in it's 11th year and serves as an invaluable resource for the elder population. Call the church office if you'd like to recieve a copy.
